We are seeking a dedicated and inspiring Sixth Form Teacher to join a specialist school in Peterborough, supporting students with severe learning disabilities (SLD) and ASD. This role involves delivering tailored teaching and assessing life skills, early functional English, and Maths, preparing students for their next steps in education or adulthood. For the right candidate, this fixed-term role could lead to a permanent position.
Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver engaging, tailored lessons for Sixth Form students with SLD and ASD, focusing on life skills, functional English, and Maths.
* Assess students’ abilities and needs, designing individualized learning plans to support their progression.
* Foster independence, confidence, and self-esteem, preparing students for life beyond school.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure students receive comprehensive support for both academic and personal development.
* Monitor and record students’ progress, providing regular feedback to staff, parents, and carers.
* Promote a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment that encourages all students to achieve their best.
* Help students work toward qualifications appropriate to their abilities and aspirations.
Requirements:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
* Experience teaching post-16 students, particularly those with severe learning disabilities, ASD, or additional needs.
* A strong understanding of functional English, Maths, and life skills education tailored to SEN learners.
* Patience, empathy, and the ability to inspire and motivate students with complex needs.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with support staff, therapists, and families.
* A commitment to fostering independence and preparing students for their futures.
