Astute's Environmental team is working with a well-established and forward-thinking consultancy delivering high-quality environmental services across the UK to recruit a Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant, based in Leeds, London, or Manchester with flexible hybrid working available. \nThis Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant role offers a salary of £30,000-£35,000, along with flexible working, structured development support, and the opportunity to work on nationally significant planning and infrastructure projects. \nIf you're a flood risk or drainage professional looking to grow your technical and commercial experience in a supportive and ambitious team, submit your CV to apply today.\n\nResponsibilities and duties of the Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant role\n\nReporting to the Water Services Lead, you will:\n\nPrepare Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, and other planning support documents\nContribute to SuDS design and prepare technical drawings and drainage plans\nAssist with due diligence reviews for investors and developers, offering practical risk mitigation advice\nAnalyse and present spatial data using GIS tools (e.g., QGIS)\nCollaborate with planning and environmental teams across the business\nContribute to projects in related areas such as nutrient neutrality and climate risk assessments\nWork towards professional accreditation and broaden your technical capabilities\n\nProfessional qualifications\n\nWe are looking for someone with the following:\n\nA degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or a similar field (or equivalent experience)\nAround 2-4 years of experience in flood risk or drainage consultancy\nFamiliarity with UK planning policy, SuDS principles, and relevant environmental legislation\nExperience using QGIS or similar GIS software\nStrong communication skills and attention to detail\nEagerness to develop professionally and contribute to a team environment\n\nPersonal skills\n\nThe Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant role would suit someone who is:\n\nPassionate about delivering sustainable water management solutions\nSelf-motivated, organised, and comfortable with client interaction\nInterested in a varied role with technical and commercial growth opportunities\nComfortable working both independently and collaboratively\nKeen to work on meaningful projects that support planning and sustainability goals\n\nSalary and benefits of the Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant role\n\n£30,000-£35,000 depending on experience\n25 days holiday + bank holidays (option to buy/sell additional leave)\nCompany-matched pension scheme\nHybrid and flexible working arrangements\nChartership and CPD support\nEmployee wellbeing programme\nDiscounts across fitness, travel, retail and entertainment\nOpportunities to volunteer and engage with community initiativesINDNUC\n\nAstute People are acting as an employment agency in relation to this vacancy.
