Job purpose: As a registered nurse with an NMC Registration you have to adhere to your NMC Code of Conduct with regards to prioritising people, practise effectively, preserve safety and promote professionalism and trust.
To be responsible for the provision of clinical leadership and to coordinate and oversee clinical activities and the clinical team members, including the Nursing and Specialist Care teams. To ensure compassionate, effective, and efficient delivery of high-quality clinical care for residents. The focus of the role is on day-to-day delivery of excellence in quality care provision, ensuring all clinical governance and compliance targets are met, and supporting the Registered Manager and Clinical Deputy Manager.
Core Responsibilities
* Promote Positive Team Culture and Team Working: provide effective leadership to ensure nursing standards and practices are in accordance with the NMC, CQC, Swallowcourt policies and Local Clinical Regulations
* Take responsibility for the personal development and education of the nursing and specialist care teams
* Advise nursing and specialist care staff on clinical matters and provide leadership in demonstrating high standards of holistic care while ensuring best practice
* Encourage regular clinical and care supervision (group or individual) to inform, implement and cascade knowledge for best practice and personal development
* Attend organisational clinical meetings and promote cross-home collaboration with senior clinicians from other homes
Communication And Relationship Skills
* Manage challenging situations sensitively to reduce anxiety and promote effective resolutions
* Act as a positive role model for all staff
* Encourage meaningful engagement with residents and carers
* Monitor and facilitate best practice and shared learning sessions
Clinical Responsibilities
* Lead Quality Audits with delegation to team members and ensure completion of actions monthly
* Lead with the Clinical Deputy Manager on clinical systems and processes within the home
* Provide support in ordering, storing, administering, dispensing and disposal of medications in line with policy
* Undertake initial assessment of potential residents, advising on admission and ensuring risks are identified and managed with evidence-based care
* Liaise with residents, families and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure optimal care and formal care reviews
* Inform external agencies promptly when a resident’s needs change; involve family as appropriate
* Complete clinical/fee justifications and review care fees with the Clinical Matron
* Complete clinical investigations and reports as requested by the Registered Manager
* Maintain professional self-regulation and comply with legal and statutory requirements
* Assist with completion of clinical and care competencies from the Swallowcourt Competency Framework
* Represent the home on local forums and in related health projects; lead on implementing clinical pathways
* Be aware of and ready to lead in emergency procedures
Other
* In the absence of the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager, maintain operations and share on-call responsibilities as required
* Support the home with emergency shift cover and participate in the On-Call Roster with other senior staff
* Any other duties as reasonably expected
