Clinical Develop and maintain a good knowledge of Radiology exams/procedures and associated requirement i.e preparation, during the exam and any required aftercare to ensure a safe delivery of practice/service. To be the first point of contact for Consultants, GPs, referrers and other healthcare professionals contacting the department, for advice from the duty Radiologist, transferring calls when appropriate, taking precise information to pass details to Duty Radiologist, ensuring clinical priority is identified and escalated and that all enquiries are responded to in a timely fashion. To demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to exercise diplomacy and an excellent telephone manner. Demonstrate compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity.

Support the team to deliver care that helps improve the health of the individual and wider community. Develop own competence to deliver effective care and treatments through improving clinical/technical knowledge / skill, and expertise. Support colleagues and senior staff to help promote good team morale, leading by example with ones own professional behaviour.

To be aware of the current Ionising Radiation Regulations if working in areas involved with radiation, Employers procedures and adherence to the relevant local rules. To be aware of the potential hazards of strong magnetic fields if working in MRI. To be able to confidently and competently use the departmental Radiology Information System To have a flexible approach and assist with any other duties as requested by the Radiology team, within the associated competencies of role Liaise with other departments/wards within and outside WAHT to ensure a quality service for patients and clinicians. Communication Provide and receive information requiring discretion, sensitivity or persuasive skills: o Exchange factual information with patients and other healthcare professionals using discretion, sensitivity and empathy as required.

Implement alternative methods of communication where required to ensure that patient safety is maintained. Communicate any delays in a timely and professional manner. Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, carers, visitors and members of the multi-disciplinary team. To develop and maintain appropriate intra and interdepartmental communication channels.

To occasionally receive and communicate sensitive information from/to some patients. To be able to relate to all manner of patients with understanding and care, respecting their privacy and dignity to provide a caring and confidential service. Promote and ensure the best available departmental environment for patients, visitors and staff. Appropriate communication with individuals involved in the care of patients.

Respond appropriately to queries, take phone messages and pass on precise written and verbal information to patients/colleagues where appropriate. Education Participate in the development and promotion of a positive learning environment, which meets the needs of all learners within the department environment. Participate in personal development reviews and work to achieve personal objectives/competencies. Use reflection of experience to enhance development of self and others.

To participate in personal development needs that may be identified by the service leads or in the appraisal process in an agreed timeframe. To assist qualified staff in the evaluation of resources to develop high standards of patient care and achieve value for money initiatives. Administrative duties To include registering the patient, updating patient records, bookings, extraction of work lists and all other associated RIS activities. Maintain accurate records at all times: Demonstrate awareness and evidence the importance of accurate data entry into hospital based systems/patient records.

Maintain accurate records of examination data within RIS, including additional comments in regards to any change in standard practice. Understand the contingencies required when electronic systems fail and support the team as required. Equipment duties Adhere to the correct manual handling policy as advised during your mandatory training when moving any equipment. Report any identified faults or concerns to maintain service provision.

Infection Prevention Control Ensure compliance with all Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures understanding your role in the prevention of infection in patients and staff. Wear personal protective equipment when required. Governance Report any incidents on the Trust risk management system and participate in any requirements for incident investigations To ensure you are aware of your responsibilities, supporting policies and undertake the appropriate level of training for your role. Maintain professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues.

To be responsible for own mandatory training and ensure it is up to date as per trust requirements. To ensure you remain up to date with department requirements/changes by attending departmental meetings when required, reading meeting minutes and monthly governance updates. To be aware of and comply with all standards of conduct and care related to the Trust in general and the Department of Radiology in particular. Demonstrate commitment to improving care and the patient experience to include participation in Quality Improvement Programmes.

Deliver a high standard of care in accordance with WAHT policies and procedures. Finance, Information and Resources: To adhere to and ensure the effective use of resources. Health and safety Maintain knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act, ensuring appropriate measures are taken in respect of Health and Safety for patients, relatives, visitors, hospital staff and contractors. To work at all times in a safe and responsible manner, ensuring own work practices comply with Trust and Directorate Policies on Health and Safety, Infection prevention and control ,COSSH, Security and Radiation Protection, and that any hazards are brought to the attention of the Radiographer in Charge.

To ensure that you have read, understood and signed local safety procedures i.e Radiation safety policy, IRMER procedures etc. Be responsible for the appropriate health, safety and welfare matters affecting themselves, patients, visitors, professional and non-professional authorised staff within a designated, controlled or supervised area within the Diagnostic Imaging Department or the Trust.
