Job Description
We are seeking a disciplined and commercially minded Financial Controller to take full ownership of the finance function for our £12m turnover UK engineering services business. This is a high-visibility role where you will be responsible for the integrity of the local balance sheet while acting as the primary financial interface for our €1bn parent company.
You will manage the full accounting cycle—from project-level WIP and payroll to high-level statutory compliance and rigorous monthly Group reporting.
About the Role
As Financial Controller, you will function as the financial lead for our UK business joining our senior management team during an exciting period of growth.
This is a pivotal role offering the opportunity to shape and strengthen the finance function while contributing strategically to the wider success of the company.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will play a key role in driving operational excellence, financial integrity, and business performance. Managing the full accounting cycle from project-level WIP and payroll to high-level statutory compliance and rigorous monthly Group reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
1. Ensure the smooth running of the core finance functions, including payroll, invoicing, and accounts payable/receivable.
2. Lead monthly reporting cycles, variance analysis and action planning.
3. Provide critical insight into annual results, forecasts, and strategic decisions.
4. Develop annual budgets and long‑term plans aligned to country objectives.
5. Ensure strong financial controls, reliable accounts, and robust management tools.
6. Manage all financial flows from WIP and invoicing to DSO and cash collection.
7. Lead improvements or replace the current accounting system in Opera and reporting in excel.
8. Responsible for transfer pricing for services delivered across multiple Segula entities.
Group Reporting & Analysis
9. Deliver accurate, timely monthly management and Group reporting packs in line with Group deadlines and standards.
10. Provide clear, concise variance analysis and forward‑looking insight on budget vs actuals, identifying risks, opportunities, and corrective actions for the Managing Director and Group Finance
Legal, Tax & Compliance Support
11. Manage all corporate tax, VAT, and statutory filing requirements.
12. Act as the internal lead for managing the company’s legal commitments, including the review of commercial contracts and insurance requirements.
13. Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and Group internal audit teams.
. Systems & Process Evolution
14. Maintain the integrity of current systems (Opera/Excel) while identifying and implementing process improvements to increase reporting speed and data accuracy.
15. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting speed, data accuracy, and control.
16. Advise the board on the future integration of a unified ERP system to better link engineering operations with finance.

19. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance and administration.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
You are a "hands-on" Controller who thrives in an environment where you can see the direct impact of your work. You are comfortable navigating the requirements of a large corporate parent while maintaining the agility of a £12m engineering firm.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
20. ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualification
21. Degree Educated
22. QBE with relevant experience may be considered.
23. Significant post‑qualification experience in senior finance leadership
24. Strong technical accounting knowledge and business acumen
25. Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial control
26. Proven leadership capability, including management of multi‑location teams
27. Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills
28. Outstanding organisational and interpersonal abilities
