We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Band 6 Midwife to join the specialist Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU) part time. This is a unique opportunity to work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team caring for women and families experiencing complex pregnancies.
As an FMU midwife, you will provide expert midwifery support during specialist assessments and procedures, coordinate care pathways across maternity, neonatal and tertiary services, and act as a consistent point of contact for women and their families. You will deliver evidence-based, personalised care while offering clear information, advocacy, and emotional support at what can be a particularly sensitive and challenging time.
This role requires excellent communication, strong organisational skills, and emotional resilience.
We are seeking a motivated and adaptable midwife with acute clinical experience, a commitment to teamwork, and a passion for delivering safe, inclusive and compassionate maternity care. In return, you will be supported to develop specialist expertise within fetal medicine and contribute to world-class maternity services at UCLH.
Please note that we are looking to recruit to two positions through this advert; one part time permanent and one part-time fixed term maternity cover. At point of interview, you will be asked your preference.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 6 Midwife within the Fetal Medicine Unit, you will play a vital role in supporting women and families navigating complex pregnancies. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will provide safe, evidence-based clinical care during specialist assessments and procedures, ensuring high standards of documentation and professional practice. You will act as a consistent point of contact for women and families, offering clear information, compassionate support, and advocacy at what is often a sensitive and challenging time.
You will be responsible for coordinating seamless care pathways across maternity, neonatal, and tertiary services, ensuring timely communication and safe patient flow. In addition, you will contribute to the learning and development of students, junior midwives, and maternity support workers, helping to foster a positive, supportive learning environment. Governance and quality improvement will be a core part of your role, including involvement in audit, incident reporting, safeguarding, and service development initiatives.
