We are looking to recruit a Trainee Solicitor to work in Legal, Governance and Regulatory Services for 2 years commencing on 1 September 2025, during which time you will complete a period of recognised training in accordance with the SRA’s regulations. The successful candidate will undertake a mix of contentious and non-contentious work to meet the requirements of the Practice Skills Standards. Although the successful candidate will undertake work across a number of areas including contracts and procurement, commercial property, governance and litigation, the successful candidate will be based predominately in the Commercial Law Team and is therefore expected to demonstrate and maintain an interest in commercial contracts, public procurement and property law during the training period. We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals who have, or will have, successfully completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and ready to commence work full time by 1 September 2025, and who are passionate and committed to the prospect of working in Local Government. The successful candidate will be required to undertake the Professional Skills Course (PSC) during the 2 year training period. The Council will pay for the successful candidate’s first attempt of the PSC. We are particularly interested in candidates with a 2:1 law degree or above (or equivalent) (or a degree in any discipline at 2:1 or above (or equivalent) and the Graduate Diploma in Law with commendation or above) and the LPC with commendation or above (unless exempted). In the event of a high volume of applicants the Council will shortlist candidates meeting this criteria. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview at Wakefield One, Wakefield (provisionally 23rd and 24th July 2025). Interviews will comprise an assessment, presentation and panel interview. The post is hybrid including office-based working at Wakefield One in Wakefield and home-based working.
