About The Candidate
We are seeking a values-based, ambitious leader who is passionate about the quality of curriculum for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). You will have proven experience in curriculum innovation, quality assurance, and raising standards of teaching, learning, and assessment. You will lead our ESOL provision, ensuring every learner is welcomed, supported and empowered to thrive.

Role Description
As the Curriculum Manager for ESOL at Sunderland College you will be based at the Bede Campus. You will lead, inspire, and manage across an ESOL provision that includes 16-18 study programme students and adults and ranges from Pre-Entry to Level 2. You will provide clear direction for staff, champion community engagement and innovative teaching and learning, whilst driving continuous quality improvement and celebrating outstanding practice. You will oversee curriculum planning, design, and delivery—ensuring programmes meet the needs of students, employers, and community stakeholders.
Role Responsibilities
* Lead and manage curriculum delivery, design, and review across ESOL provision.
* Inspire and support staff in delivering outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment.
* Manage performance, staff deployment, and timetabling effectively.
* Oversee quality processes, including SAR and QIP, ensuring compliance with awarding bodies.
* Engage with parents, carers and community stakeholders to provide excellent learner experiences.
* Prepare for inspections and external reviews, showcasing outstanding provision.
Qualifications
* A relevant degree (or equivalent qualification).
* A teaching qualification (PGCE / CELTA / DELTA or equivalent).
* Level 2 (or equivalent) qualifications in English and Maths.
* Evidence of recent and relevant continuous professional development suitable to this role.
