Join to apply for the Chief Cardiac Physiologist (ECHO) Fixed Term role at Ashford and St Peters NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed term post for maternity cover. The department provides a wide range of investigations and offers opportunities to rotate through all aspects of the echocardiography service.
We have a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up service and a 24/7 PPCI service. The post holder will rotate across both sites and contribute to an extensive remotely-monitored patient population. The role involves providing and leading high-quality echocardiography and related duties as part of a multi-skilled team.
Responsibilities
* Provide an extensive echocardiography service with BSE accreditation; supervise and teach at a high level TTEs; assist with TOE, Bubble Studies, and Stress Echoes; support in Bubbles studies and Dobutamine Stress Echoes.
* Maintain and oversee the daily running of the echocardiography service, ensuring equipment is operational, stock is adequate, and staff resources are available.
* Co-manage equipment faults, service contracts, and liaise with manufacturers and engineers; ensure adherence to service levels and quality standards.
* Provide first-line interpretation and full technical reports; review and assist with clinical reporting by junior staff; respond to emergencies as required.
* Contribute to research, stay up to date with trends in clinical physiology, and translate knowledge into practice; participate in 7-day echo service and weekend rotations.
* Participate in training and development of junior staff; supervise and manage echo personnel, rota, recruitment, and performance where applicable.
* Support in the organisation and performance of the echocardiography service and contribute to IQIPS, BSE, and other accreditation activities.
Managerial and Educational
* Provide statistical records and audits; jointly manage the echo department with the Lead Echo Cardiac Physiologist; develop protocols and procedures to support accreditation and evidence-based practice.
* Develop and maintain professional development plans, ensure mandatory training is up to date, and support a progressive learning environment for all staff.
* Supervise training, development, and appraisal of staff; demonstrate leadership and promote open communication across disciplines.
Administration
* Register patient attendances on the department PRISM database; book appointments and track patient progression using PAS/Cerner; manage patient and equipment administration and stock control.
* Maintain department cleanliness and efficiency; manage patient bookings, recalls, and ambulatory monitor returns; perform other reasonable duties as required by the Operations Manager & Principal Cardiac Physiologist.

Requirements
* Broad experience in echocardiography; BSE accreditation is preferred. If not yet accredited, funding may be provided to achieve accreditation with a one-year commitment post-accreditation.
* Extensive knowledge of invasive techniques and remote monitoring; post-graduate learning in CRM (HRUK/IBHRE) is essential; RCCP registration is desirable.
* Ability to rotate across sites and work 7-day service including weekends; BSE accreditation or willingness to obtain; ability to lead and coordinate a high-quality echocardiography service.
