This is an exciting new post that we are creating at Melrose Surgery.
We are looking for a part-time Finance manager working 15 hours per week over 2-3 days.
Main duties of the job
* Oversee payroll and salaries for staff including overtime.
* Liaise with practice accountants to ensure accounts are up to date with an annualised spreadsheet of practice finances.
* Pay any outstanding invoices and raise invoices for various creditors.
* Be familiar with the fundamentals of general practice and sources of income including global sum, enhanced services and QOF.
* Maintain a dynamic spreadsheet of all incomings and outgoings on a timely basis.
* Present monthly statements at partners meetings including balance and projections.
* Collaborate with the practice manager to alleviate their workload and for succession planning.

Reports to: Practice Manager / Partners
Job Purpose
The Finance Manager is responsible for managing the financial operations of the GP practice, ensuring accurate financial records, effective budgeting, and compliance with NHS financial and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the day-to-day financial running of the practice
* Prepare monthly and annual financial reports for Partners and the Practice Manager
* Monitor practice income, including NHS contracts, enhanced services, and other income streams
* Manage budgets, cash flow, and financial forecasting
* Oversee payroll, pensions, and staff expense payments
* Ensure suppliers are paid accurately and on time
* Support the preparation of end-of-year accounts and liaise with external accountants
* Ensure compliance with NHS financial regulations and guidance
* Identify financial risks and opportunities to support practice sustainability
Skills and Experience
* Experience in a finance or accounts role, ideally within NHS or primary care
* Understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow management
* Good attention to detail and strong organisational skills
* Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
* Confident user of Microsoft Excel
