The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and to serve the communities and businesses of South Yorkshire. From transport to housing, from business growth to skills, the MCA has a great story to tell. We have ambitions to deliver recovery and renewal for people, businesses and places across South Yorkshire.
Please note that SYMCA follows a structured salary grading system for all roles, and the offered salary for each post will be at the starting point within the specified grade. Key Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll work directly with local employers to understand their recruitment, workforce and growth needs, with a strong focus on both employment and skills development. You will support businesses to find the right people, access tailored training opportunities and connect with regional initiatives, ensuring they have the talent and capabilities required to thrive.
Playing a key role in driving economic and social growth by connecting employers with the right resources. This is a role where you’ll combine relationship-building with problem-solving, making a direct impact on South Yorkshire’s economy and communities.
Your work will involve:
* Building strong relationships with employers, training providers and community partners
* Helping businesses overcome recruitment challenges and upskill their workforce
* Promoting employment initiatives, training programmes and alternative provision
* Identifying and creating referral pathways into support services across the region
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We’re looking for someone who can:
* Demonstrate experience in an employment, business engagement, skills development or advisory role
* Communicate confidently with a range of stakeholders, from business leaders to community partners
* Work independently, take initiative and manage multiple priorities
* Think strategically while delivering practical solutions
* Demonstrate knowledge of the funded training and upskilling landscape, including apprenticeships, Adult Skills Fund, Skills Bank, etc.

Continuous Employment: If you are currently employed by a Local Government employer, or any other employer under the Redundancy Modification Scheme, and do not have a break in service, your length of service can be transferred upon starting. This will apply to entitlement calculations including annual leave, maternity leave and enhanced sick pay.
Enhanced Holiday Entitlement: From 28 to 36 days annual leave entitlement (depending on length of service) plus bank holidays. Pro-rata for part time colleagues.

Hybrid working: Our offices are a space where we come together and collaborate. Most roles are offered on a hybrid basis with the exception of some onsite roles. Unless specified within the job advert, remote working contracts cannot be accommodated.
