Role Responsibility: HEAD OF SAFEGUARDING AND RESETTLEMENT Oakhill (Children) Secure Training Centre (STC), Milton Keynes G4S Care and Rehabilitation Services £55,179.00 per annum Full time (40 hours per week) About Us G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for children to develop their life skills and address their previous behaviours. We aim to support change and learning. We strive to help every child feel safe, giving them an opportunity to heal from trauma and feel supported in developing a more positive identity. We ensure our children have equal access and opportunity for change and are celebrated for their strengths. We want the children in our care to leave better equipped for life emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially. Our hope is that they will go on to make decisions and life choices that will lead to increasingly positive and productive lives. We aim to support the constructive resettlement and transition of our children, whether returning to the community or moving to other custodial settings. We are committed to working in partnership with them and their families, significant others and wider community organisations, to develop a quality regime at the centre. About the Role Oakhill STC is a fast paced, complex and challenging environment and as such the successful candidate needs to be resilient, innovative, passionate and work collaboratively to share the Director's vision of how to make Oakhill a centre of excellence through embedded best practice as a united Leadership Team. Leading on all aspects of safeguarding at Oakhill you will ensure the safeguarding, child protection and resettlement processes and transition of any child within Oakhill is planned, coordinated and focused on achieving the best possible outcome for the child whilst ensuring the well-being and safety of all children. You will be a leader who develops transparent and collaborative ways of working to engender openness, trust and inclusion. This is an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children. Some of the key responsibilities of this role are: Promote the safeguarding of children, acting as the Safeguarding lead for the centre and ensuring that a stable and secure environment is provided for all children. Develop and maintain external links with local safeguarding teams, bringing community expertise into the strategy of the centre. Produce and deliver the Safeguarding strategy, review policies and incorporate current legislation. Co-ordinate investigations of all child protection concerns raised by children, their families, colleagues and/or external parties/professionals to best legislative and best practice requirements. Coach, support and develop staff, including supervision & appraisal, to maximise their performance and ensure high standards of care, values, ethics, equality and diversity, policies and procedures, legislation and contractual and inspection framework requirements are met. Develop and co-ordinate delivery of Safeguarding training within the centre in partnership with Milton Keynes Safeguarding Board to ensure training is delivered in line with national guidance and research. Lead in relation to anti-bullying and oversight of the anti -bullying process, to ensure that legislative, contractual and best practice requirements are met Develop and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders including the Milton Keynes MASH and the LADO and develop links with intervention providers, developing a Team around the Child approach that identifies priority needs of young people and addresses barriers to education, integration and resettlement success. Produce and analyse documents, reports and information in relation to the improvement and effective leadership of behaviour management. Monitor and review management information to ensure contractual compliance and best practice. Contribute fully to the Behaviour Management, care and support of all children, leading staff by example and in conjunction with the Head of Care to reduce incidents of violence, restraint and self-harm, Role model a positive health and safety culture to meet and maintain relevant external accreditations thereby ensuring that children are fully supported to achieve their potential. Lead on the protection of Children and young people at risk of exploitation and harm Lead on the Prevent Agenda within Oakhill Secure Training Centre Oversight of any child transitioning from Oakhill back to the community or transferring to a YOI. To be done in conjunction with partner agencies and close collaboration with stakeholder groups. The Ideal Candidate: About you To succeed in this role, you will need to be a dynamic and engaging individual, with significant experience in a similar role. It is important you a good have knowledge and understanding of current legislation. The role will require you to promote a child centred approach which prioritises both the safeguarding of the children’s welfare and wellbeing. The successful candidate must have substantial experience in working with children and young people, ideally within a care or criminal justice setting. You will support the Deputy Director and carry out Duty Director responsibilities on a rostered basis. Leading by example, we are looking for a highly motivated and determined leader, with the ability to be resilient, confident with a tenacious can-do attitude, have the ability to embrace complexity and be a part of a busy and fast paced senior management team. The role requires working with a wide range of stakeholders in a high profile environment and it is key that you are flexible and adaptable to deal with ever-changing scenarios. It is every employee’s responsibility to promote and safeguard the welfare of the children in our care; as such all employees are required to hold a current Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Scheme) Certificate.
