Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer role within the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team. Experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment. Expertise in control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems is beneficial. The role supports the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate, providing technical leadership to meet objectives for safe, reliable and sustainable assets and net-zero commitments.
You will be part of a team that manages, develops and maintains electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for electrical systems and equipment. This includes HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures, and monitoring sites. You will help develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment. A national incident response role may be required, during normal or out-of-hours.

Experience/Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* A good working knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk-based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
Role Details
This is a hybrid role with a base location near your home. Travel and overnight stays may be required. An incident management objective will be in your development plan, and appropriate training will be provided. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within three weeks of the closing date. If you are on a reserve list, your details may be kept for six months for potential opportunities.
Competences include: Communicates Effectively; Achieves Results; MEICA Technical Advice and Design. Role-specific requirements include a UK Driving licence and current membership of a recognised engineering institution with Chartered Engineer status or active progress toward registration within 12 months.
