Anaesthetic Practitioner, Band 5- Theatre

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Band 5 Nurse, ODP or Newly Qualified to join our friendly Anaesthetic Theatre team within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Our specialties include Gynae Elective and Oncology, Urology, Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast, Vascular, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Head and Neck

Our team will be dedicated towards your development by providing a supportive, encouraging and positive learning environment. Successful applicants will receive supernumerary status whilst achieving specific competencies, additional training and potential leadership progression.

Full time and part time posts will be considered if candidates possess the right skills and knowledge. The post includes a varied shift pattern, day/night/on call rota, weekends and bank holidays.


Main duties of the job

You will be working as part of the perioperative multidisciplinary theatre team delivering exceptional care for patients attending for their surgery. The post holder will be a HCPC registered ODP or NMC registered nurse with an anaesthetic qualification who will assess, plan, implement and evaluate high quality, safe and compassionate care for patients in the perioperative setting, providing specialist assistance to the anaesthetist.

This care will be facilitated utilising evidence-based perioperative standards, trust policies as well as local and national guidelines (e.g. NICE, NatSSIPS).

Your role will include the preparation of a wide range of specialist equipment, including anaesthetic machines, intravenous and airway equipment. During the surgical procedure the anaesthetic practitioner will also provide essential support between the surgical team and other parts of the operating theatre and hospital. The anaesthetic practitioner will be responsible for the preparation and safe transfer of the patient to the Critical Care or Recovery area. The job role will require the applicant to work within a range of settings and specialities, and cross-site working may be required on occasion.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* NMC level 1 actively registered Nurse with recognised anaesthetic course/ HCPC actively registered Operating Department Practitioner
* Teaching and Assessing Qualification (or equivalent)
* ILS/ALS


Experience

* Recent experience of working in a theatre environment utilising anaesthetic skills
* Experience working in specialities listed in Job Description


Knowledge/ Skills

* Mature and flexible approach to problem solving
* Effective time-management and prioritisation of workload
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well as a team
* Knowledge of Trust's values and vision
* Anaesthetic skills applied in a clinical setting
