Transport Manager

Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 DOE

Irlam Associates are proud to be working in partnership with a leading food manufacturing business, who are currently seeking a proven and experienced Transport Manager to join their high-performing logistics team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and operationally strong individual to take ownership of the transport function within a growing and fast-paced business.
The Role
As Transport Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the transport department, ensuring that all operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in full compliance with industry regulations. You will lead a team of drivers and transport staff, oversee route planning and vehicle scheduling, and ensure the safe and timely delivery of goods across the UK. You will report directly into the General Manager
Working closely with warehousing, production, and customer service teams, you will play a key role in delivering excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and lead all transport operations, including vehicle scheduling, route planning, and driver allocation
Ensure full compliance with DVSA regulations, including driver hours, vehicle maintenance, tachograph management, and health & safety
Maintain and manage the company’s Operator’s Licence and ensure vehicles and drivers operate legally and safely
Lead and support a team of drivers, including training, development, and performance reviews
Monitor KPIs, fleet performance, and transport costs to drive continuous improvement
Collaborate with internal departments to align transport with production and delivery schedules
Ensure accurate transport records are maintained, including maintenance logs, incident reports, and delivery documentation
Deal with transport-related incidents, investigations, and implement corrective actions
Build strong working relationships with customers, ensuring excellent service levels and on-time deliveries
About You
Essential Requirements:
CPC International qualification as you will be put on the O’license
Minimum 5 years' experience in a Transport Manager or similar supervisory role
Strong understanding of UK transport legislation, vehicle compliance, and health & safety standards
Proven experience in managing drivers and fleet operations within a fast-paced environment which is continues to grow year on year
Excellent leadership and communication skills
Proficient in transport management systems and Microsoft Office
Full UK Driving Licence Desirable:
Previous experience in food manufacturing or FMCG environments
Knowledge of route optimisation and vehicle telematics systems
Experience managing budgets and improving cost-efficiency
