In this role you will maintain a wide range of equipment and workspaces while upholding Health and Safety best practices. You will learn to keep your colleagues safe and prevent machine downtime, boosting the availability and quality of our equipment and enhancing the operational environment. You will work with exciting technology – some of which only exists at Amazon.
Your role will cover a broad range of activities including installation, testing, fault finding, and ongoing planned maintenance of complex automated equipment.
Key job responsibilities
* Carry out proactive and preventative maintenance.
* Carry out reactive repairs and fault diagnosis in a live distribution warehouse.
* Use the latest tools to maximise equipment effectiveness.
* Make modifications and upgrades to existing equipment.
* Uphold health and safety policies and practices.
* Work on continuous improvement projects.
Basic Qualifications
* Have lived in the UK or an EEA, or British overseas territory for 3 years or more prior to commencing the apprenticeship (September 2026).
* Be a resident of IRE for the duration of the apprenticeship.
* Not registered to study on a UK or IRE government funded course ending August 2026 or later.
* Be 18 years old or older before entering an Amazon building (September 2026).
* Obtain a Leaving Certificate with five 06 or higher grades which must include Mathematics or Leaving Certificate Applied with five passes plus Level 5 Mathematics and one year industry experience, OR
* Have successfully completed an approved pre‑apprenticeship training course in an engineering discipline and demonstrate a proficiency in Mathematics similar to 06 in Leaving Certificate, OR
* Have a full award placed at Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (EQF 4) which includes proficiency in Mathematics similar to 06 in Leaving Certificate, OR
* If an applicant is 23 years or over (or employed in the OEM sector for 3 years) and does not meet the educational requirements specified above, they may apply through the Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) process. Additional requirements will need to be met.
Preferred Qualifications
* Achieve a full award at NFQ Level 5 or Level 6 in a STEM, engineering, or technology-related discipline.
* Complete or be currently completing a Post‑Leaving Certificate (PLC) course with a technical, engineering, or science focus.
* Successfully complete a pre‑apprenticeship or traineeship in an engineering, manufacturing, or related field.
* Demonstrate strong academic performance in Mathematics, Physics, or Technology within your Leaving Certificate studies.
* Hold additional certifications relevant to engineering or technical disciplines (e.g., CAD, robotics, electrical installation, mechanical maintenance, or computing fundamentals).
Important Qualification Reminder
As part of the recruitment and enrolment process for this apprenticeship, candidates must provide proof of all required qualifications. Original certificates or certified copies must be submitted. This is a mandatory requirement to secure the position. The deadline for providing qualification certificates for the OEM Engineering Technician programme is 17 July 2026. Applications without verified qualifications by this date will automatically be unsuccessful. Failure to provide proof of qualifications by the stated deadline will result in the withdrawal of any conditional offer, and you will not be able to commence the apprenticeship programme. Previous qualifications will be reviewed for funding eligibility and offers may be withdrawn for applicants who do not meet funding criteria.
