An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Endoscopy Booking Office team at Sunderland Royal Hospital. You will be one of a small team of administrative booking officers, who will provide essential administrative functions, whilst interfacing with clinical and administrative staff, patients and the general public. Primarily providing administrative service to the Endoscopy Unit to support effective service delivery.
The Service supports many departments and Directorates throughout the Trust and you would be expected to carry out a variety of administrative tasks to support clinical, nursing, and administrative teams.
The Endoscopy Unit consists of Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Nurses, HCAs, administrative booking officers and receptionists. The Endoscopy Booking Officer role consists of Outpatient Scheduling, working towards waiting list targets, liaising with patients and relatives over the telephone and booking patients in via our administration system.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role are to undertake clerical and administrative duties, supporting the provision of an efficient and effective service to the Division of Theatres Reception areas, booking teams, and all service users throughout the Trust.
You will greet patients, take phone calls, deal with queries, signpost or forward calls as required and book appointments. You will also contribute to effective communication links between all members of the Team, and associated Directorates and maintain accurate electronic information systems, with previous experience of Meditech Version 6 being desirable.
Proven all‑round administration skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and computer literacy are essential. Excellent organisational skills and time‑management are also integral to the role.
You may be expected to work across sites, Trust‑wide to support the needs of the Theatres Division.
The hours of this role are shift patterns during core business hours of Monday to Friday 07:00 to 18:00.
Job responsibilities
Responsible for admin duties including taking telephone calls, booking appointments, cashing‑up clinics, clinical correspondence preparation, and reception cover whilst providing admin duties to the clinical teams across the Division of Theatres.

Physical Skills
* Able to work flexibly in‑line with the needs of the Service: 08:00‑18:00, Monday to Friday, on a shift / rota basis.
Qualifications
* Basic Numeracy & Literacy Skills to Level 1 or equivalent.
* Basic IT skills.
* Educated to GCSE standard, at Grade A, B, C, or equivalent, or substantial experience in an NHS setting.
Experience
* Experience of working with the public.
* Experience of reception work.
* Experience of working in administration.
* Experience of using Meditech Version 6.
Skills & Knowledge
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Excellent keyboard skills.
* Excellent telephone and communication skills.
* Experience of working in a NHS Admin role / Reception area.
