PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £41,200 - £42,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience + London Weighting. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are recruiting a Senior Journalist with Polish language skills to adapt and produce text and video curated from World Service Languages and wider BBC News content for the BBC News Polska offer.

The BBC News brand is driven by impartiality, enriched by the world's largest network of correspondents and supported by our commitment to combatting misinformation. We are offering Polish-speaking audiences verified news and expert analysis of key events, shaping the present day in Poland and the wider region. We prioritise explanatory and analytical content to help audiences make sense of current developments in Europe and the world, to join the dots in a noisy environment of unverified and uncontextualized news bites. This role works closely with other journalists to select and adapt a curated offer for the Polish market.
Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Adapt BBC News text and video content into Polish, using translation and editing, for publication on BBC News Polish social media platforms, producing compelling SEO headlines and intros, curated for those platforms.
* Shorten BBC News content where necessary, sensitively, with understanding of the BBC's editorial guidelines and Polish audience needs.
* Use specific additional reporting to make BBC News content more engaging for the Polish audience.
* Translate or, where necessary produce, concise and compelling short video content - voiced or subtitled.
* Offer ideas that may be developed into original journalism, to be done by BBC News teams on the ground. Work closely with the rest of Europe team to offer expertise on Polish issues, including but not limited to politics, history, international relations, society and culture. Closely follow diary events in Poland and wider region, to identify opportunities for curating and publishing content, sourced from BBC News.
* Communicate with wider WSL and BBC News teams to stay across content in production and commissioning.
* Sub-edit content produced by Journalists or other Senior Journalists. Sign off content for publication on BBC News Polska website and social media channels.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* First language or equivalent proficiency in written and spoken Polish. High proficiency in English.
* Proven experience of writing compelling text articles and/or video scripts in Polish – you will need to provide examples of your work.
* Ability to produce SEO headlines, for Polish and wider European regional audiences.
* Video production skills: scripting and editing an advantage. Proven experience of producing impactful short videos is desirable.
* Understanding of the Polish and wider European media market and current challenges to factual journalism in the country and the region.
