We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible individual with relevant work experience to join the school’s inclusion team from 1st September 2025. The role involves working under the guidance of the school leadership team, collaborating closely with the Senior Behaviour Support Officer and staff across the school to deliver pastoral and learning support to learners in the Inclusion Room (IR) office. You will also supervise learners who are excluded or not following a normal timetable.
Your responsibilities include addressing the needs of learners requiring additional help to overcome learning barriers, supporting individuals and groups to access learning, and assisting teachers with managing learners within and outside the classroom.
You will work closely with learners to provide advice and information, helping them make informed choices about their learning, behaviour, and attendance. Motivating and challenging learners, promoting self-esteem, and supporting access to learning with appropriate strategies and resources are key aspects of this role.
Essential qualities include patience, understanding, resilience, a caring attitude, and the ability to build positive relationships. You should be a team player capable of organising and planning your own time. If you are passionate about how children learn and can inspire challenging learners, we look forward to your application.
The appointment process includes an interview with school leadership and Governors. This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and requires an enhanced DBS check.
As an employee of Newport City Council, you will benefit from a generous pension scheme, discounted Newport Live membership, and other benefits such as the Cycle to Work Scheme. Further details are available via the provided link.
