Location: Hybrid – Manchester / North West. Office Locations: Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bolton, Southport, Newcastle, Reading, Birmingham, Northampton, and Cambridge. Hybrid working available with flexibility to work from home and collaborate in‑office when needed.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop and execute the firm’s compliance strategy and culture, leading a high‑performance team.
* Advise and partner with the Executive Leadership Team, Chief Legal Officer and other senior stakeholders on legal and compliance matters, ensuring alignment with the firm’s strategy.
* Lead compliance oversight for all mergers & acquisitions, collaborating with M&A and Legal Transformation, Strategy and Operations teams.
* Design, review and oversee implementation of policies, procedures and documentation to meet statutory and regulatory obligations (SRA, FCA, GDPR, ICO, LASPO, etc.).
* Provide risk‑based compliance reporting to the CLO, Risk Team and senior board members on a monthly basis.
* Manage relationships with professional indemnity insurers and address formal negligence claims.
* Coach, develop and support junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
* Work with Learning & Development for role‑specific training and general compliance education.
* Act as a champion for good legal practice and delivery of key compliance KPIs.


Essential Skills & Experience

* Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of compliance law.
* Experience of successfully working and leading in a legal compliance team.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to form positive working relationships with a wide variety of team members and manage sensitivities of challenging legal practice.
* Excellent understanding of, and ability to deliver, excellent customer service.
* Ability to balance compliance with business drivers.
* Experience of coaching and supporting team members.
* Ability to role‑model good practice leadership.
* Technology literate, using technology to enhance legal services.
* Strong analytical skills.


Desirable Skills & Experience

* Ideally qualified as a Solicitor or a CILEX Lawyer.
