Senior Clinical Embryologist (TR-JOB-35144-2)
Location: Pencoed, Wales – Sector: Medical & Nursing – Salary: £50,000.00 to £60,000.00 per annum
We are working with a Fantastic Independent Fertility Clinic based around the Bridgend Area in Wales. Due to continued growth, the clinic is looking for a talented and ambitious Clinical Embryologist to join their high-performing medical team. Clinical Embryologist Key Responsibilities
* Participate in the treatment of patients with known high risk diseases (e.g., HIV, Hepatitis B or Hep C).
* Convey relevant details of treatment (quality of oocytes, sperm and embryos) directly to patients in a clear, concise, and understandable manner.
* Suggest alternative treatments when necessary.
* Counsel patients regarding the implications of treatment options to ensure correct information is provided and relevant questions are answered to aid informed decision-making.
* Deliver bad news to patients and counsel them regarding outcomes and further treatment options.
* Participate in annual embryo storage audits and assist with the system of contact for patients with embryos in storage.
* Maintain liquid nitrogen storage vessels to ensure stored material integrity.
* Handle liquid nitrogen and manually handle storage vessels in accordance with accepted safe practices.
* Perform all duties in accordance with the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Act (1990) and the Code of Practice issued by the HFEA, and any other relevant regulation.
* Undertake formal witnessing of procedures as required by the HFEA to ensure correct identification of patients, gametes (oocytes and sperm) and fresh and frozen embryos.
* Ensure that informed consent (in accordance with the HFEA) is in place prior to any treatments being performed.
* Comply with quality control, ethical issues, and regulations surrounding gamete and embryo handling.
* Maintain and care for equipment.
* Keep accurate and detailed patient records.
Clinical Embryologist Requirements
* Bachelor of Science in life sciences (or equivalent) from an EU university; alternative degrees may be acceptable.
* Certificate in Clinical Embryology awarded by the Association of Clinical Embryologists (ACE) and the Institute of Biology or a graduate of the Modernising Scientific Careers STP training programme.
* Full HCPC registration.
* Demonstrable clinical experience working in a laboratory field setting.
* Experience within assisted conception and reproductive medicine.
* Experience in a busy patient-facing environment.
* Ability to freeze embryos and perform ICSI independently.
