Overview
In order to support our continued growth in the UK we are looking to recruit a Business Engineer in our Central Office, in Warwick. The purpose of the role is to support, develop and grow the business in the region with all estimating and business development aspects of a bid, ensuring that value engineered, high quality, and competitive proposals are delivered to the customer in a manner consistent with the business strategy and procedures.
Responsibilities
* Develop our relationships with key customers to support growth in the ground improvement markets in the region (e.g., Vibro Stone Columns, Vibro Compaction, Dynamic Compaction, Dynamic Replacement, CMC rigid inclusions, Prefabricated Vertical Drains, etc.).
* Contact and visit key customers, build relationships, obtain feedback, and provide presentations.
* Organise and attend corporate events.
* Support award entries and the bid process to ensure tender deliverables are produced in a timely and effective manner.
* Assist with design options and “value” solutions; identify project attractiveness based on sound estimating principles where appropriate.
* Review tender documents (drawings, specifications, site investigation, and client requirements) and submission requirements, evaluating all relevant information in the bid process.
* Ensure innovative solutions are produced (liaising with the design team if necessary) and that all identified risks are mitigated.
* Prepare tender price schedules and documents (including clear technical and financial proposals) in accordance with the pricing strategy and risk assessments; ensure cost plans reflect project requirements and risk profile.
* Ensure effective communication with customers during and after the bid process to maximise opportunities and build long-term relationships.
* Provide considered responses to customer questions including post-tender queries.
* Ensure the project operation and commercial teams have an effective handover of bid documentation.
* Feedback from commercial and operations teams on site production/results/payments/potential claims and assist on solving issues where necessary.
* Ensure compliance with business strategy and authority levels; where required, manage live projects and gain an understanding of operational processes.
* Support delivery teams by verifying work, providing expert technical support (including site visits and meetings with customers).
* Maintain personal expertise in ground engineering to stay at the forefront technically and with relevant standards.
* Contribute to the development of marketing materials including brochures, websites and data sheets.
* Maintain a relentless focus on safety – WORKSAFE/HOMESAFE.
Qualifications and requirements
* A degree in civil engineering or a geological subject and a valid CSCS card. Membership of a relevant professional body (ICE or GeolSoc) would be advantageous.
* Technical/engineering knowledge of ground engineering processes; ability to advise senior management when action is required and to drive timely delivery of work-winning bids.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to form effective relationships under time pressure; customer-centric approach with the ability to identify opportunities in invitations to tender.
* Capable people-manager who can develop and coach teams and address HR issues promptly and robustly.
* Customer-centric and flexible with strategic and creative insight to understand opportunities in tenders and to challenge the norm.
* Hands-on experience leading technical aspects of work-winning bids in a timely manner; able to provide direction and ensure necessary actions are taken.
* A desire to pursue innovation and development focused on the customer and the ground engineering business.
* Good Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of AutoCAD would be advantageous.
* Full UK Driving Licence is required.
