Job description
Provide specialist assessment and management for children with neurodevelopmental conditions (including ADHD and autism), long‑term disabilities, complex health needs, and children in care. Undertake child protection medical assessments and support the safeguarding medical rota. Work across the Peterborough, North Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire and Fenland areas.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Undertake statutory CIC/adoption health assessments in Peterborough and support CIC work in Cambridgeshire.
* Formulate medical plans and adoption reports.
* Advise agencies on the health management of individual looked‑after children.
* Contribute to the child protection medical service at the Oaktree Centre, Huntingdon.
* Support neurodevelopmental and neuro‑disability pathways in northern Cambridgeshire (Wisbech and Fenland).
* Help develop service delivery, quality improvement activities and supervise junior colleagues.
Communication
* Maintain excellent written and verbal communication within multidisciplinary teams—including paediatricians, psychologists, therapists, nurses, SEND and SENCOs, CAMHS, acute paediatric staff, and social services.
People Management
* Annual appraisal and maintain professional development.
* Teach and supervise trainees, medical students and allied‑health professionals.
* Support good medical practice through supervision, education, safety and quality reviews, teamwork and clinical leadership.
Research & Development activity
* Engage in service development, evaluation, and research alongside the CCS Research Team.
* Participate in internal CPD and multidisciplinary training.
* Contribute to the Community Paediatric Clinical Network across the East of England.
Clinical and Practice governance
* Adhere to data protection, information governance, risk assessment, infection control, and audit processes.
* Maintain GMC registration and complete mandatory training.
* Participate in safeguarding audits and emergency preparedness.
Safeguarding people responsibility
* Promote child and adult safeguarding, maintaining relevant competencies and complying with local partnerships.
* Uphold policies on confidentiality, conduct, and inclusion under the Trust’s diversity and inclusion policy.
Person specification
Qualifications & training
* Full registration with the GMC.
* Higher medical qualification (MRCPCH or equivalent).
* Specialist registration for paediatrics (or CCT within six months of interview).
Experience
* Assessing and managing children with complex physical needs and neurodisability.
* Experience with adult health issues affecting care placement.
* Valid BLS training.
* Higher specialist training in community paediatrics.
Skills & knowledge
* Clinical and educational supervision skills.
* Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience with audits, quality improvement, and service development.
* Competence in supervising trainees for child protection medical assessments.
* Effective communication with children, families and stakeholders.
* Ability to review, summarise and interpret information for adoption reports.
* Compliance with GMC’s Good Medical Practice.

Contract and pay
£109,725 – £145,478 per annum (pro‑rata), permanent, 10 PA job with 8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA; no out‑of‑hours service commitment.
