Better places, thriving communities.
Are you interested in working within the criminal justice system? Do you have the empathy to work with vulnerable people?
We are looking for people who want to make a difference working alongside the Police in custody suites, caring for detainees – supporting them during custody, completing forensic samples, and collaborating with other agencies for detainees' rehabilitation.
Previous experience in police/security/armed forces is beneficial, but we will train you through an initial training course, even without prior experience.
You will need to use a computer and various programs competently during your shifts.
The role requires flexibility to work not only at your base custody suite but across an assigned region in police custody suites and force areas.
What You Can Earn:
* Salary of £27,518.40 on a 4-shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights) then 4 days off.
* Rotas planned 2 years in advance for your convenience (average 42 hours/week).
* Referral bonus of £150 for each colleague you successfully refer who joins us.
Minimum Requirements:
* Police/security/forces experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
* Reasonable level of spoken and written English and basic numeracy.
* Competent in IT and computer use.
* Full valid driving license.
* Right to work in the UK, lived in the UK with a British Passport or ILR for 3+ years, no gaps out of the country exceeding 3 months.
* Clear police vetting checks; a clean driving and criminal record is essential.
About the Role:
The custody suites can be energetic, with no two shifts the same. We provide detainees with physical and mental healthcare, escort detainees, and make observations per individual plans, working with colleagues and police to manage risks.
You will work in a small team alongside police officers, supported by experienced senior detention officers.
Training:
After passing our selection and vetting, you will complete a 3-week initial training course (ITC) Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm, paid in full. Continued development follows.
Opportunities for Growth:
We support your career development, including progression to senior roles managing teams.
We offer benefits like virtual GP, financial wellbeing schemes, extra holiday options, discounts, cycle-to-work, life cover, pension contributions, share plans, and employee recognition awards.
We are committed to inclusive recruitment; if you need adjustments, contact Connor Moore at Connor.Moore@mitie.com.
