We are hiring a full-time Estimator to join our Commercial team. The role involves preparing development budgets, estimates, and cashflows from pre-land purchase to final budget, before handing over to Quantity Surveying and Buying teams. The estimator provides accurate cost estimates to support land and business opportunities and maximize development cost-effectiveness.
This position is based in Exeter, Western region. Key responsibilities include:
* Building relationships with external consultants and specialists
* Maintaining market awareness on material and subcontractor prices
* Updating cost databases and collaborating with the commercial team
* Producing financial appraisals and conducting risk analyses for new sites
* Quantities take-off, procurement, and analysis of quotations
* Reviewing drawings and tender documentation
* Updating build cost budgets regularly and at key milestones
* Considering subcontractor quotes and site constraints
* Applying technical knowledge of construction processes
* Exploring innovative cost-saving techniques and value engineering
Ideal candidates will have:
* Experience with estimating software like Bluebeam or similar
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office
* Ability to interpret quotations and tender documents
* Experience in recording tender costs and related data
* Knowledge of construction techniques and building regulations
* Ability to challenge and optimize designs for cost efficiency
* Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
* Housing Quantity Surveying background is advantageous
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
