Do You Have A Strong Background in Licensing or Regulatory Compliance with a Passion for Public Safety?

Join our Licensing team and play a vital role in protecting the community. If you're ready for a challenging and rewarding position where your expertise makes a real difference, this is the opportunity for you.

About The Role

* Manage a wide range of licensing activities, ensuring compliance with legislation and policy.
* Lead on complex licensing cases, including complaints and enforcement actions.
* Review and determine licence applications, making informed decisions to protect public safety.
* Provide clear, practical advice to applicants, licensees, and stakeholders on licensing requirements.
* This role offers flexibility, with the ability to work from home for part of the week, combined with office-based collaboration and on-site visits.
* You’ll be part of a small, busy team where adaptability and flexibility are essential. We need officers with a strong work ethic who can work independently, manage complex cases, and provide clear reporting to lead officers.

Out-of-Hours Work

This role may occasionally require working outside of standard office hours. This includes participation in late-night and early-morning operations, particularly within the night-time economy. Such duties are essential to support enforcement activities, ensure public safety, and uphold licensing compliance during peak periods of activity.

About You

* Experience of licensing or a regulatory background; if you don’t have licensing experience, full training will be provided.
* Strong communication skills to explain complex requirements clearly.
* Proven ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively.
* Experience using Office 365 software packages (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
* A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.

Desirable

* Knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Licensing).
* Specialist qualifications such as the BTEC Level 3 Animal Inspector.

We are committed to your development and you’ll receive structured training and ongoing support to build your expertise and confidence in all aspects of licensing and enforcement.

Why This Role Matters

Licensing plays a critical role in public safety and safeguarding vulnerable children and adults. Your decisions will directly protect the community and ensure that businesses and individuals operate responsibly and lawfully.

We work to three core principles that guide our commitments and service delivery:

* Prepare for the future – We plan and innovate to meet future challenges.
* Deliver for residents – We focus on providing high-quality services.
* Focus on prevention – We aim to prevent issues before they arise.

Apply today and help us keep Bath and North East Somerset safe, fair, and thriving together.
