Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Practice
* To work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Trust Policies and Procedures
* To act as an expert for the care of neonates/infants, providing effective leadership and acting as a positive role model
* To set agreed standards of nursing care and to monitor them and take action to improve if necessary
* To communicate effectively with patients, their parents/carers and all healthcare personnel
* To promote a holistic and multi disciplinary approach to care, ensuring continuity of care
* In conjunction with senior nurses within the care group, to develop clinical policies and protocols relevant to the area, ensuring that practice is evidence based

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Registered Nurse - Adult or Child Branch
* Formal Neonatal qualification - ENB 405/ diploma/degree or working at this level and able to critically analyse situations
* Post registration qualification in mentorship or ENB 997/998 or equivalent
* Current NALs certificate or willingness to undertake
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
* Extensive clinical experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
* Able to demonstrate continuing professional development and commitment to professional development of others
* Awareness of current developments and national policy in own clinical specialty.
* Knowledge of Safeguarding policies and procedures and ability to refer concerns appropriately
* Can analyse and interpret information in an effective manner and exercises sound judgment
SKILLS
Essential criteria
* Evidence of utilising evidence-based practice and writing guidelines
* Evidence of effective multi-disciplinary working.
* Has demonstrated leadership skills in a supervisory/team leader context
* Demonstrates evidence of developing innovative practice and of being proactive in the management of change.
* Basic IT and computer skills
* Experience in budgetary management and control, or the willingness to acquire this
