+ To work as part of the Trusts Urgent Care services, specifically delivering a comprehensive 24/7 Liaison Mental Health Service for the Emergency Department (ED) of Walsall Manor Hospital.
+ The service aims to support and assess individuals attending Walsall Manor Hospital who are experiencing mental health problems, have self-harmed, are actively suicidal, or are in mental health crisis.
+ Provide time-limited liaison follow-up for inpatients with complex mental health needs and offer consultative advice to colleagues on clinical issues related to mental health.
+ Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Mental Health Liaison Service in the Emergency Department and hospital wards.
+ Operate in line with the 'Core 24' model and follow NICE guidance for assessment and policy implementation in Liaison Psychiatry and psychological medicine.
+ Participate in mental health education programs within the hospital.
+ Conduct evidence-based mental health and risk assessments for individuals presenting with acute issues or who have self-harmed.
+ Respond promptly to referrals from ED, Medical Units, and wards.
+ Undertake comprehensive biopsychosocial/risk assessments and develop care packages for patients meeting criteria for support from local mental health services, such as Talking Therapies, Community Mental Health Teams, Early Intervention, Urgent Care, Home Treatment, and Inpatient services.
+ Ensure appropriate referrals to other services, including voluntary and community organizations.
+ Utilize full mental health assessment skills to prevent duplicate assessments.
+ Record interventions accurately on electronic patient records and in hospital records.
+ Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly to patients and families, providing support and advice.
+ Support and advise hospital colleagues caring for patients with mental health issues.
+ Recognize and interpret abnormal signs and symptoms, including physical conditions impacting mental health.
