This role is the Manager for the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.

You will work in a hybrid model, with the ability to work from home and your nearest office. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties may be required. Incident response is a central part of our work and you should be prepared to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support when needed.


Role and responsibilities

As ECU Manager you will:

* be the strategic lead for managing financial investigations to fulfil obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA);
* lead a dispersed team and continually improve how we work;
* manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; and
* collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners ( Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) and influence senior stakeholders to ensure Environment Agency priorities are recognised by enforcement partners.

You will also support the wider organisation in increasing understanding of POCA, share lessons learnt, contribute to technical documentation, and advise other enforcement officers nationwide.


Team structure

The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team. These teams include Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts and operate across the country to tackle serious and complex criminality involving organised networks.


Experience and skills required

* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team; strong understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
* Experience in the law enforcement sector and understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication skills, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage a varied workload.
* Ability to identify areas for improvement and lead changes to working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its members.

Note: The following competencies are requested: Leads People; Develops People; Takes Decisions and Solves Problems. Examples from your experience are welcome where you have led change, dealt with complex staff issues, and led cross-agency collaboration.
