Overview of the School

Salford is a city undergoing a breathtaking transformation—from its industrial roots to its status as a global digital and media hub at MediaCityUK. Our school sits at the heart of this regeneration, serving a community that is ambitious, diverse, and rapidly evolving. We believe that Mathematics is the universal language of the future, providing the essential logic for the next generation of engineers, data scientists, and innovators. We are seeking a high-caliber Maths Teacher who can bring numbers to life and ensure that every student in Salford has the mathematical fluency to succeed in a competitive world.

The Mathematics Department

The Maths Department is the engine room of our academic success. We are a team of specialists who move beyond rote learning to focus on mathematical mastery—ensuring students understand the "why" behind the "how." Our faculty is exceptionally well-resourced, featuring a dedicated suite of classrooms equipped with the latest interactive software, visualizers, and a shared repository of high-quality manipulative resources.

We pride ourselves on a culture of collaboration. Whether it’s exploring the beauty of $y = mx + c$ or the complexities of calculus, our staff work together to plan lessons that are both challenging and accessible. We have a growing and successful A-Level cohort, and we maintain strong links with local universities to ensure our curriculum stays aligned with higher education and industry requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Maths Teacher, you will be responsible for building student confidence and competence in a subject that is vital to their future prospects. Your responsibilities will include:

* Instructional Excellence: Delivering high-impact, engaging lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE). You will have the opportunity to teach A-Level Mathematics (and potentially Further Maths), guiding students through advanced algebraic, statistical, and mechanical concepts.

* Mastery-Based Learning: Implementing a curriculum that prioritizes deep understanding. You will use a variety of representations—from concrete and pictorial to abstract—to help students grasp complex mathematical relationships.

* Analytical Progress: Utilizing the school’s sophisticated data tracking systems to identify gaps in knowledge. You will provide targeted intervention and high-frequency, low-stakes testing to ensure that concepts are embedded in long-term memory.

* Curriculum Innovation: Contributing to the continuous refinement of our schemes of work. We encourage our teachers to integrate real-world applications of maths into the classroom, from financial literacy to the algorithms behind modern technology.

* Mathematical Literacy: Ensuring that students can articulate their reasoning clearly. You will focus on the use of correct mathematical vocabulary and the ability to construct logical, multi-step proofs.

* Extracurricular Enrichment: Leading initiatives that celebrate maths beyond the classroom, such as the UKMT Junior and Senior Maths Challenges, "Maths Feast" competitions, or a popular Chess and Strategy Club.

-----------------------------------

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be a logical thinker and an enthusiastic subject advocate. You should possess:

* Academic and Professional Credentials: A degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field, and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). We warmly welcome applications from both experienced practitioners and ambitious Early Career Teachers (ECTs).

* Subject Authority: A deep love for the subject and the ability to solve problems with precision and creativity.

* Pedagogical Skill: The ability to break down complex, multi-stage problems into manageable steps, ensuring that all students—regardless of their starting point—experience success in every lesson.

* Resilience and Drive: A proactive approach to student behavior and a commitment to maintaining a calm, focused learning environment where every second of learning counts.

* Communication: The ability to explain abstract concepts with clarity and to build strong, professional rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
