Job Summary:
As the Porter, you will act as the primary representative of the landlord and building management, demonstrating a courteous, professional, and proactive approach to residents, visitors, and contractors. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and cleanliness of the building, overseeing daily cleaning routines, security, maintenance reporting, and resident support. You will also be expected to remain on-site during working hours (except for lunch breaks) and be available for emergencies as required.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning - Daily & Weekly
Collect rubbish from doorsteps Monday - Saturday and manage communal waste disposal.
Sweep, mop, and vacuum lobbies, stairs, and hallways; dust handrails, skirting boards, and window sills.
Wipe down doors, handles, and high-touch areas; polish brass fittings.
Clean and maintain lifts (mirrors, buttons, floors, and cages).
Sweep and remove litter from external steps, pathways, and basement areas.
Spot-clean walls and doors in communal areas; clean internal communal windows.
Maintain cleanliness of bin store rooms and tidy courtyard areas.
Weed and maintain external areas.
Cleaning - Monthly & Ad-Hoc
Deep clean communal carpets and light fittings; remove cobwebs.
Pressure wash entrances, paths, and basement areas.
Inspect and clean external doors, letterboxes, and entry systems.
Clean exterior light fittings and signage.
Organise bulky waste disposal and report maintenance or repair needs to the managing agent.
Administration & Supervision
Maintain daily logbooks recording staff attendance, incidents, maintenance issues, and resident concerns.
Arrange and oversee contractor visits, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.
Conduct end-of-shift building checks.
Safety & Security
Conduct weekly fire safety checks and maintain accurate records in the fire safety file.
Ensure lifts are operational at the start of each shift and report faults immediately.
Inspect block entrance doors daily, adjusting closers where possible and reporting malfunctions.
Conduct building patrols at least twice per shift, covering all areas from top to bottom.
Monitor and download CCTV footage when required by management or authorities.
Respond promptly to emergencies, contacting relevant services (fire brigade, police, medical) as necessary.
