FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Occupational Therapy department as a Band 4 Technical Instructor (TI).
We support adults who have complex mental health needs and a forensic/offending history in their rehabilitation.
We help them identify and pursue their interests, develop functional and life skills, or explore future vocational and educational pursuits.
You will need to have experience, or be willing to learn, and support service users in accessing activities such as fitness, gardening, music, artistic outlets, developing social networks, and life skills.
We are keen to utilise any specialist skills, passions, or hobbies you may have and incorporate these into your role, e.g., meditation, teaching, or sharing a skill.
Current TIs report enjoying seeing service users develop their skills and confidence, and engaging in activities, although challenges include overcoming patients' lack of motivation.
Our OT department is equipped with a recreational centre that includes 2 gyms, a sports hall, pottery room, music/recording studio, IT suite, horticulture garden, ADL kitchen, tennis court, carpentry and mechanics workshops, a service user lounge, cafe, and shop. Some groups include pet therapy, plumbing, and motorbike repair/maintenance.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Qualified Occupational Therapist, on a medium/low secure forensic ward, alongside a multidisciplinary team. As a TI, you will work with individuals one-on-one and facilitate therapeutic group sessions within the hospital and community, aiming to promote recovery, maximize independence, and support discharge. Teamwork and communication are essential.
