What is a Manager– Distribution System Operations?
The Manager– Distribution System Operations oversees the 24x7 operation of the gas and electric distribution systems. This position directs the continual operation for Distribution Operators, Dispatchers, and Emergency Service Representatives to ensure safe, reliable, and timely response to emergent and planned system events. The Manager– Distribution System Operations also manages personnel who are assigned to operate, and/or supervise the operation of, the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), as well as oversees the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training associated with central operation of the Central Hudson electric distribution system.
What does a Manager – Distribution System Operations do?
8. Effectively oversees the safe and reliable operation of the gas and electric distribution systems; working in conjunction with field supervision, monitor and raise the overall performance, efficiency, and productivity of field personnel during business hours and after-hours
9. Is responsible for the functions and staffing of the Distribution System Operations; track and report against team key performance indicators
10. Maintains a high level of proficiency in tools such as ADMS, MWM, OMS, ARCOS, and other related systems; act as the ADMS operational process owner
11. Champions safety, employee engagement, and continuous improvement
12. Leads the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training necessary to establish centralized Distribution System Operations
13. Keeps informed of industry best practices regarding Distribution Control Center and Dispatch organizations to enhance productivity and operational excellence
14. Provides assistance during major electric and gas emergency planning activities and events
15. Provides leadership and direction as emergent issues arise to facilitate appropriate resolution to stakeholders
16. Oversees the Distribution System Operations training plan and Training Management System
What does it take to be a Manager – Distribution System Operations?
Required:
17. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related technical field and at least 5years of related control room operational or technical supervisory experience. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related technical field and at least 7 years of related control room operational or technical supervisory experience. In lieu of an associate’s degree, a High School Diploma or equivalency degree and 10 years of related control room operational or technical supervisory experience.
18. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with customers internal/external stakeholders, governing and emergency agencies
19. Ability to supervise and lead others
20. Strong investigative and documentation skills
21. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and simultaneously manage multiple projects to meet deadlines
22. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
23. A valid driver’s license
Preferred:
24. Masters in Electrical Engineering
25. Strong working knowledge of gas and electric distribution system operations is preferred
26. Established understanding of the computer systems utilized to operate the distribution system such as OMS, MWM, ARCOS, MyGeotab, ADMS is preferred
