An exciting opportunity is available for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse to join the Tissue Viability Team in UHL. The Tissue Viability service provides advice and support on the management of complex wounds across the Trust, working clinically with ward-based staff to ensure the best outcomes for patients and focusing on education. A passion for the prevention of pressure ulceration and wound care is essential.

We will support you to develop into an expert practitioner in Tissue Viability, offering opportunities such as a sharp debridement course and other relevant education.


Responsibilities

* Act as the clinical expert and professional resource to patients, carers, and the multi‑professional team.
* Manage own caseload under the supervision of the specialist Sister.
* Work alongside the Tissue Viability lead and other specialist nurses to ensure the development and delivery of a high quality service.
* Directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within the service/speciality.
* Deliver high quality, clinically effective care and patient experience, utilising best practice and research, in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
* Act as a role model and clinical resource demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership in the specialist area.
* Support the development and delivery of a programme of practice and professional development for staff within the speciality.

Patient Care, Clinical Expertise and Case Management

* Manage delegated caseload of patients, delivering individualized and personalized direct patient care.
* Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across the whole spectrum of the service.
* Apply the Chief Nursing Officer 10 key roles appropriate to client group to improve and streamline patient care and experience.
* Demonstrate in‑depth specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice, ensuring delivery of evidence‑based care.
* Support, assist and encourage the multi‑disciplinary team in resolving complex patient problems.
* Demonstrate appropriate expert practice and specialist advice in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.


Patient and Public Involvement and Experience

* Promote the philosophy of patient‑centred care and maintain supportive relationships with patients and families.
* Enhance patient and public involvement by supporting new initiatives related to patient‑centred care.
* Embed patient and public involvement within own sphere of practice.


Effective Team Working and Communication

* Ensure effective communication between all service providers within the speciality.
* Maintain positive working relationships with Nursing leadership, Education and Practice Development leads, and other clinicians.
* Collaborate with Education and Practice Development teams to develop partnerships with local universities.

* Raise the importance of education, research and ideas in appropriate forums.


Education, Training and Practice Development

* Provide specialist education and training to all members of the clinical team.
* Participate in personal development through appraisal and Knowledge and Skills Framework plans.
* Ensure education meets the needs of the service, multi‑professional teams, patients and carers.
* Continuously evaluate practice and make changes where appropriate.
* Use education forums and networks to share good practice and innovation.
* Liaise with other groups to support multiprofessional and interprofessional learning.
* Provide specialist education teaching and mentoring for pre‑ and post‑registration students.


Policy, Guideline, Audit and Research

* Contribute to policy making and clinical guidelines internally and externally.
* Participate in audit, research and benchmarking activities to ensure effective, safe and evidence‑based practice.
* Promote nursing practice research in all relevant clinical areas.
* Provide and promote clinical excellence reflecting the Trust’s Quality and Safety Strategies.
* Publish and present innovations and research findings locally and nationally.
* Promote the specialist service throughout the Trust.

Speciality Specific

* Apply Topical Negative Pressure, Larvae and Compression bandaging where appropriate after training and assessment.
* Complete all required training and assessment to undertake the role.
