Mechanical Design Engineer - Birmingham

You’ll influence design direction while working on a variety of challenging projects in the automotive sector. We’re looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a busy, collaborative engineering team. You’ll play a pivotal role in designing, improving, and delivering innovative solutions that make a real difference in our operations and to our customers.
Responsibilities
* Hands-on design position taking projects from concept to completion - creating 3D CAD designs, producing accurate technical drawings, validating designs, and ensuring everything meets high-quality standards.
* Collaborate with customers, production teams, and suppliers to bring ideas to life, solve problems, and drive efficiency.
* Leading the creation of 3D concept designs using CAD software.
* Producing detailed technical and assembly drawings, with accurate BoM management.
* Standardising design principles for quality and efficiency.
* Carrying out basic FEA analysis to validate durability.
* Validating designs using engineering measurement tools (including CMM).
* Supporting reverse engineering projects to solve obsolescence challenges.
* Working cross-functionally to troubleshoot, innovate, and deliver improvements.
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
* At least 5 years' CAD design experience (Catia, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.).
* Strong 3D modelling and technical drawing skills with GD&T knowledge.
* BoM management experience.
* Understanding of pneumatic/hydraulic design (desirable).
* Reverse engineering and FEA experience (desirable).
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
