An opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Lincoln County Hospital for a full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant based in the Blood Sciences Pathology Department. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the multidisciplinary Blood Sciences laboratory after appropriate training and completion of the relevant in‑house competencies. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant your main role is to assist Biomedical Scientists with their lab work. You will receive and process a variety of biological samples and will also be trained to work in phlebotomy, taking blood from patients.
Responsibilities
* Assist Biomedical Scientists with laboratory work.
* Receive and process a variety of biological samples.
* Perform phlebotomy duties, taking blood from patients.
* Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in laboratory procedures.
Qualifications
* Attention to detail.
* Good level of manual dexterity.
* Computer skills, for example, for recording patient information.
* Teamwork skills.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Experience of computer input work and ability to demonstrate current skills.
* Literate and numerate, GCSE Grade C or above in mathematics and English, a plus.
* Previous laboratory or health care experience and familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
Working Hours
Core hours are 09:00 - 17:30. The successful applicant will be expected to take part in the out of hours roster, including early shifts, late shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
