An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with the research team as a Clinical Research Fellow, primarily based in Cardiology. Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiology based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. These jobs are primarily based in a dynamic acute cardiology unit and are suitable for those interested in a career in cardiology or seeking to work at specialty doctor level. The primary purpose of the position is to increase the research profile across the specialty. These posts provide excellent training and experience in all aspects of general and subspeciality cardiology, although they do not carry a national training number.
This post will involve supporting the local Principal Investigators and their delivery teams with the running of NIHR (National Institute of Health & Care Research) hosted and sponsored commercial and non-commercial studies. The post will involve supporting principal investigators in their clinical duties such as clinical examinations, reviewing bloods and undertaking any other clinical procedure required. Working with the wider R&D team under the direction of the R&D Director, Head of R&D & Lead Research Nurse, as required, will form part of the role.
Main duties of the job
We have a dedicated research team. The department successfully recruit high volume of patients into an appropriate mix of multi-centre commercial, portfolio and investigator-initiated studies across a spectrum of cardiovascular disorders. There are two Cardiac Physiologists doing PhD projects already.
* Supporting the coordination, management and delivery of clinical trials and studies according to protocols
* Supporting the Principal Investigator and/of the Department Research Lead in submitting applications of NHS, Regulatory, Ethics and Governance permission to conduct Clinical Trials within the Trust
* Identifying, screening and assessing the suitability of local patient to take part in research, according to specified inclusion/exclusion criteria. Ensuring trial specific investigations and sampling are undertaken as per the Protocol to establish eligibility and to ensure safe entry into trials. Providing specialist information to patient about taking part in clinical trials, including the risks and benefits of participation in specific protocols. Initiating and facilitating the process of gaining their informed consent.
* Acting as primary contact for participants and to be a source of information for these patients and their relatives and for the local clinical teams, with respect to trial activities.
* Liaising with other clinical departments, support departments and external organisations to ensure the successful delivery of trials.
