Band 4 Medical Secretary 30hrs per week working within Urgent & Emergency Care (U&EC). This role is to be based at the West Cumberland Hospital as fixed‑term maternity cover.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the U&EC Secretarial team. The service aims to provide high quality, locally delivered, patient‑focused services for those attending our Emergency Department (ED), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) areas. The role will be crucial to the efficient day‑to‑day delivery of the service.
Main duties of the job
You will often be the first point of contact for our patients; therefore a professional, patient‑focused approach is key at all times. You will provide a high standard of administrative support to the clinical team, liaising with other departments, patients, NHS Trusts and external agencies.
Requirements for the role:
* Educated to GCSE (minimum C Grade) standard, trained to RSA Level 3 standard and/or NVQ Level 3 in Administration and/or equivalent experience, preferably with a medical administration background.
* A pleasant, adaptable disposition who can remain calm under pressure and manage a busy workload efficiently and effectively.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive team approach.

* Medical terminology.
* Microsoft Office.
* PAS.
* Understanding of the requirements of the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, access to health records and defensible documentation, health and safety legislation, and their application in the workplace.

* Medical audio typing.
* Medical word processing.
Qualifications
* GCSE English language (minimum grade C) or equivalent.
* RSA 3 type‑writing / word processing, or NVQ3 business administration, or equivalent.
* Medical secretarial diploma or equivalent.

* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Able to analyse complex facts or situations.
* Able to use initiative appropriately within a team environment.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.

* Willing to travel cross‑site for work and or meetings.
Relocation assistance may be available for successful applicants moving to the region for certain posts.
