A well-balanced team-working pattern has been developed to maximise the capacity of the in-patient and out-patient service and the Endoscopy department. The in-patient ward work is shared by the Consultant Team on a rotational basis (7 days per week, 1:8). The department is progressive and welcomes innovative developments. There are established links with Upper GI / HPB surgery and Colorectal surgery, with weekly multi-disciplinary meetings. In addition, departmental IBD and Hepatology MDTs are well established. Other specialty interests include diagnostic & therapeutic endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, bowel cancer screening, viral hepatitis, IBD, GI physiology and capsule endoscopy. The department operates from a modern outpatient department and runs peripheral clinics in Ross-on-Wye and Leominster.
This is a fixed-term post, ending on 4 August 2026. The post may close early if there is high volume of interest.
Wye Valley NHS Trust is a member of an NHS Foundation Group with South Warwickshire NHS FT, the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, providing acute and community services across Herefordshire and into parts of Powys. Travel between sites is required.
The post holder will be on-call on a 1:18 rota. Average weekly hours are 45:15, including a mixture of on-calls and night shifts.
Responsibilities
* Inpatients: Care of Gastroenterology in-patients and providing advice to inpatients in other areas with support of the Gastroenterology ward consultant, alongside Gastroenterology Specialty Registrars.
* Outpatients: Deliver general Gastroenterology and Hepatology care with the opportunity to develop a sub-specialist interest with the support of the Consultants with links to tertiary centre experience.
* Endoscopy & other specialty procedures: Continue development of Endoscopy skills and other endoscopic procedures.
* Portfolio & logbook: Maintain a portfolio & logbook of procedures and work towards achieving JAG accreditation in Colonoscopy & other endoscopic procedures.
* Meetings: Attend MDT meetings and participate in Mortality & Morbidity, Education & Audit meetings and case reviews.
* Supervision & appraisal: The post holder will be supervised/mentored by the consultant team and participate in annual appraisal with support for revalidation.
Secretarial support for outpatient activity will be provided by the department’s medical secretaries; the post holder will have access to a desk and computer.

Notes
The post holder will be supervised/mentored by the consultant team and will be provided with support & guidance for revalidation. You will be supported to develop within a forward-looking department.
