The Opportunity To develop embedded software and application software for LumiraDx Point of Care Instruments in support of ongoing product enhancements and maintenance. Work with colleagues to define requirements, identify risks, and design and implement software that runs on or supports current versions or future developments of the Instrument. Develop software in support of laboratory-based prototyping used to inform the final Instrument design that will be transferred to manufacturing. Deliver the needs that the Test Strips have of the Instrument software during the Test Strips' development and commercialisation. The Role Contribute to technical requirements, architecture, specifications, and interface design documents compliant with our established quality system and design controls. Contribute to the design and implementation of software running on our medical device. Create and maintain low-level driver firmware for MCU peripherals such as UART, SPI, I2C, etc. Assist in prototype board debug providing problem analysis, test code if required and solution options. Define and execute the required unit testing verification activities using unit testing frameworks to demonstrate the software design has met specifications. Work closely with System and Software Testers to ensure they develop tests to adequately verify all development activities. Perform risk analysis and impact analysis of implemented software on an entire system. Develop software tools and tests to exercise and regression test software features. Participate in software reviews and provide feedback on design and technical best practices. Perform defect analysis and root cause problem solving. Make suggestions for continuous improvement by participating in sprint retrospectives and wider team improvement initiatives, and help to implement the improvements. Qualifications Essential Experience Typically, at least 5 years of embedded software engineering experience. Proficient in embedded C development. Experience creating software requirements from product requirements. Experience creating clear technical specifications and design documentation. Experience with unit testing frameworks, e.g. Unity, Ceedling, CMock. Experience with 16/32-bit Microcontrollers, RTOSs, multi-threaded and multi-processor systems, communication protocols (SPI, I2C, TCP/IP). Knowledge of interrupt handling, bootloaders, flash operations and peripheral programming. Experience working in formal Agile scrum development process (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe). Experience with software project management and code repository tools (e.g. Jira, Git). Experience with code quality/reliability standards (e.g. MISRA). Desirable: Experience of working under a QMS and developing software for medical devices under IEC 62304. Experience in creating and maintaining a software system that allows the effective set up of experiments, captures experimental data and allows review and analysis of the experimental data. Experience in GUI development and GUI frameworks. Experience in higher level languages for data processing, analysis and internal tool development, e.g. Python, C#, R.
