We're now looking for a skilled and motivated Senior to Associate Level Process Engineer to join our team, specialising in sewage treatment works (STW). ________________________________________ Role Overview As a Senior, Principal or Associate Process Engineer, you'll lead or contribute to the development of process designs for wastewater treatment projects from concept to detailed design stages. You'll be responsible for producing core design documentation - from Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) to Control Philosophies - and play a key role in interfacing with mechanical, electrical, and civil teams. You'll also help define the commercial scope and technical deliverables, and support junior engineers as the team expands. This is a hands-on design role requiring solid understanding of biological, chemical, and physical treatment processes, combined with the ability to communicate clearly, draft drawings, and deliver high-quality documentation on time. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Technical Design & Delivery * Lead or support the process design of sewage treatment works across feasibility, outline, and detailed design phases * Develop and review key documents including: o Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) o P&IDs o Mass and energy balances o Process calculations and sizing o Control philosophies o Design Basis Reports (DBRs) o Commercial and technical scope documentation * Ensure alignment of process design with client specifications, standards (WIMES, etc.), and regulatory requirements * Provide CAD support: competent in using CAD software to draft and edit PFDs, P&IDs, and layouts * Contribute to the development of digital process design templates and standards * Assist in or lead multi-disciplinary design reviews and HAZOPs Project Support & Coordination * Work closely with mechanical, electrical, civil, and ICA teams to ensure integrated design * Support or lead technical engagement with clients, stakeholders, and contractors * Participate in design coordination meetings and ensure timely delivery of process-related documentation * Prepare and contribute to tender documents, BoQs, and proposal submissions * Track scope, risks, and deliverables across the project lifecycle Mentoring & Development * Provide guidance and support to graduate and junior engineers * Promote knowledge sharing and design best practices across the process team * Contribute to internal training materials and technical development initiatives ________________________________________ Qualifications & Experience * Degree in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering (essential) * Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IChemE or equivalent (essential) * Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in wastewater or sewage treatment works design * Proven track record in developing full process design documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, control strategies, etc.) * Experience working with UK water companies and frameworks (AMP cycles) preferred * Strong understanding of biological and chemical treatment processes, sludge treatment, and odour control * Proficient in AutoCAD or similar software (essential) * Familiarity with industry standards such as WIMES, Sewers for Adoption, etc. * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Able to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment ________________________________________ Why Join This expanding business? * Join a growing, technically-led consultancy with a clear vision and strong project pipeline * Opportunity to shape the direction of our process design capability and team * Work on exciting and meaningful projects in the water and wastewater sector * Flexible/hybrid working options and a supportive team culture * Competitive salary, chartership support, and opportunities for progression
