Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a role within the PICU, a 15‑bed regional Lead Centre caring for critically ill children up to 16 years of age. The unit receives patients from across Thames Valley and Wessex, manages complex medical and surgical conditions, and provides a 24‑hour retrieval service, historic ECMO support and collaboration with Oxford PICU.
Responsibilities
* Be a skilled member of the nursing team caring for critically ill patients in a highly complex environment.
* Provide a high standard of individualised care to patients in accordance with agreed policies and available resources.
* Help create an environment conducive to learning and development.
* Co‑operate fully in all PICU, Trust and University based developmental programmes and take responsibility for personal growth enthusiastically.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
* Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
* Registered nurse on the appropriate part of the register
* Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service
* Understanding of personal accountability
* Knowledge of own role within the team
* Evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice as a practice supervisor
* Awareness of evidence-based practice
* Awareness of responsibilities for management of infection control
* Evidence of ongoing personal development
* Able to use initiative
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of recent study
* Previous experience/qualification in a relevant specialty
* Teaching experience
