The Bridges Medical Practice, located on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, is seeking an enthusiastic GP to join our team.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a GP who is a committed team player. Currently we provide a mix of triage, face to face, phone calls and EConsults. The successful candidate would do a mix of these as well as routine admin, a share of on‑call and home visits and have their own patient list. We would welcome leading in a specific area of interest. Supporting other members of the clinical team is essential. We are a training practice so supervising trainees is required for more experienced GPs.

Job responsibilities
Timetable:
Normally 8:30 to 13:00 with a 20 minute break and 14:00 to 18:10 for routine surgeries (times can be altered with agreement). Sessions will normally consist of a mix of face to face, telephone calls, EConsult consultations, visit triages with admin time.
Visits are allocated on a rota basis and form part of a routine PM surgery. Up to 3 visits, however if less or no visits are allocated then slots will be converted to support the Duty Dr.
Duty Dr sessions are allocated pro rata. Any Duty Dr session may exceed the normal session length and there is a requirement to be on‑call from 8am until 6:30pm. The number of appointments is capped in line with BMA safe working guidance (although flexibility is required for extenuating circumstances and dealing with queries). There is a Duty Dr at each site and an expectation that there will be collaboration to ensure equitable workload.
The mix of afternoon sessions (e.g. visits and on‑call) may vary week by week but, over an extended period, duty session will be allocated pro‑ra.
If participation is agreed, extended hours will form part of your session commitment.
Job summary:
Assess and treat patients registered with The Bridges Medical Practice in collaboration with other members of the Practice team.
Manage a caseload, being the named usual GP for those patients. This will include acting on results, dealing with paperwork, prescriptions and dealing with queries for this cohort of patients and absent Drs.
Deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
Clinical responsibilities:
* In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post‑holder will make themselves available for surgery consultations, telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, dealing with medication and other queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion and completing medicals
* Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
* Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
* Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
* Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
* Providing counselling and health education
* Admitting patients to and referring to other care providers as appropriate
* Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
* Collecting data for audit purposes and participating in research studies undertaken by the practice
* Compiling and issuing acute and repeat prescriptions
* Prescribing in accordance with the Dorset prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
* In general, the post‑holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care
Other responsibilities within the organisation:
* Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
* A commitment to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice
* Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
* Contributing to read‑coding patient data to improve patient data quality and contribute to achieving QOF targets
* Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
* Supervise clinicians in training and support other members of the clinical practice team when necessary; including ensuring no junior clinicians are left unsupported e.g. at the end of the day
* Always act professionally and avoid bringing the Practice into disrepute
* If taking an agreed leadership role; you will be given time within your sessions to complete this role or will be paid for extra sessions
