Job Title: Veterinary Surgeon – Certificate Holder (Surgery) Location: Harlow, Essex Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week) – 4 or 5 days considered Practice: Forest Vets Salary: Up to £95,000 DOE Are you a surgical certificate holder ready to take the lead in a growing orthopaedic service? This is a rare opportunity to join Forest Vets at a pivotal moment, as we relaunch our brand-new Harlow site; combining the clinical freedom of a progressive practice with the backing of a wider specialist network. With a strong focus on orthopaedics and a caseload that sits between first opinion and referral, this role offers the chance to genuinely shape and develop a surgical offering, not just deliver it. Why join us? Lead and grow a surgical caseload with approximately 60% orthopaedic and surgical work Perform advanced procedures including TPLOs and fracture repairs as part of your routine caseload Work at a level between first opinion and referral, with the ability to work cases up in-house Be part of a practice with existing referral flow and real ambition to expand this further Join a highly skilled team with multiple certificate holders across disciplines Brand-new, purpose-built site with modern surgical facilities and equipment Opportunity to mentor and influence the next generation of vets No OOH and minimal weekends (1 in 10 on-call only) The Practice & Team Forest Vets is a well-established and respected multi-site practice, and the Harlow branch represents a significant investment in facilities, equipment, and clinical capability. This is not a standard first opinion clinic, the practice operates in that sought-after space between first opinion and referral, allowing for a far more interesting and rewarding caseload and plenty of space for building on strong foundations. The Harlow site is modern and purpose-built, with multiple consult rooms, dedicated surgical theatres, digital x-ray, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory. The majority of cases are worked up on site, giving you true clinical continuity. For more advanced diagnostics and procedures, you’ll have seamless access to a nearby hospital offering CT, MRI, and endoscopy, with the ability to follow your own cases through. Surgically, the caseload is both varied and progressive, with a strong emphasis on orthopaedics. You’ll be regularly performing procedures such as TPLOs and fracture repairs, while also having the opportunity to influence which cases are retained in-house as the service continues to grow. There is already a referral stream into the practice, and a clear ambition to expand this further, making this an ideal role for someone who wants to build both a caseload and a reputation. Across the wider group, you’ll be supported by a collaborative network of 14 Day Vets and 3 Night Vets, including certificate holders in ophthalmology, dermatology, internal medicine, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, and small animal surgery. This provides excellent opportunities for case discussion, collaboration, and ongoing development. At Harlow, you’ll work within a close-knit team of 2–3 vets alongside a highly capable nursing team. The Lead Vet is also a surgical certificate holder, offering a strong clinical sounding board. The culture is supportive, forward-thinking, and centred around high clinical standards and continuous improvement. Harlow itself offers the best of both worlds, more space and affordability than London, while still being within easy reach of the city. With direct transport links into London in under 40 minutes, plus access to Hertfordshire countryside and Essex villages, it’s an ideal location whether you’re commuting or looking to relocate. The area also offers excellent local amenities, green spaces, and a strong sense of community.
