We have a vacancy within the Path Links pathology services for a Phlebotomist/Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA). There are 2 x 30 hour vacancies based in Scunthorpe, working at the Scunthorpe hospital site and the Scunthorpe Community Diagnostic Centre.
Responsibilities
* Support the blood test booking line and pathology reception – meet & greet patients.
* Take blood samples and work in the sample reception area, loading samples onto analytical equipment.
* Work as part of the Phlebotomy and MLA team within the Blood Sciences department, assisting with the taking and processing of samples for testing on complex analytical platforms.
* Be prepared to work cross-site at Goole as required.
* Undergo full training (theory and practical competency assessments).
Requirements / Qualifications
* Previous phlebotomy and/or medical laboratory skills would be an advantage.
* Good communication skills, flexibility and ability to work within a team are essential.
* Based in Outpatients of Pathology incorporating Blood Sciences Sample Reception; after training, may take blood from patients in pathology and ward areas and undertake other laboratory duties.
* Role hours currently require work between 8:00am and 8:00pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend rota on a rotational basis (8:00am – 8:00pm).
Work Environment & Scheduling
The post is based in Scunthorpe with flexibility to work at Goole as required; part of the Blood Sciences team. Staff may rotate between Scunthorpe General Hospital, Community Diagnostic Centre and Goole District Hospital.
Training & Development
Full training will be provided; both theory and practical competency assessments will consolidate training received.
