This is a gardening role with occasional handyperson jobs.
This role keeps the outdoor spaces of the care home safe, welcoming, and therapeutic for residents, many of whom live with dementia. Alongside gardening duties, the postholder will carry out light maintenance and handyperson tasks to support the smooth running of the home. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in creating calming environments, and understands the importance of patience, empathy, and clear communication when working around vulnerable adults.
Key Duties:
1. General gardening: planting, pruning, weeding, lawn care, seasonal tasks.
2. Keeping gardens, paths, and courtyards tidy, safe, and accessible.
3. Minor repairs: basic DIY, painting touch‑ups, fixing loose fittings, replacing bulbs.
4. Reporting larger maintenance issues to management.
5. Ensuring tools and outdoor areas meet health and safety standards.
Skills & Qualities:
6. Gardening experience and DIY skills
7. Reliable, practical, and able to work independently.
8. Friendly, patient, and comfortable interacting with residents with dementia.
9. Awareness of safety and safeguarding in a care setting.
