Hygiene Supervisor

Department: Hygiene / Operations

Primary Purpose of the Role

The Hygiene Supervisor is responsible for leading the site hygiene team and ensuring all production areas are maintained to the highest cleanliness and hygiene standards. This role involves planning, coordinating, and supervising all hygiene-related activities across the site, while promoting a culture of excellence in hygiene and food safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead, supervise, and motivate the Hygiene Team to maintain exceptional hygiene standards throughout all production and site areas.
2. Ensure all cleaning tasks are carried out to schedule and in accordance with company hygiene procedures and best practices.
3. Maintain and regularly update the site Hygiene Manual, including cleaning instruction cards, schedules, and training records.
4. Assist in the management and documentation of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) compliance.
5. Manage team training, development, and performance in line with company policies.
6. Support and participate in accident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
7. Collaborate with the Technical team, providing accurate technical information to both internal and external stakeholders.
8. Oversee stock levels of hygiene consumables and PPE, ensuring continuous availability and cost control.
9. Play an active role in preparing for BRC and other internal/external audits.
10. Drive continuous improvement initiatives relating to hygiene and safe systems of work.
11. Conduct post-cleaning and maintenance inspections, ensuring all equipment and areas meet site hygiene standards before use.

Who We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications & Experience

12. Previous experience in a similar role within the food manufacturing industry (chilled food experience desirable).
13. Proven experience in people/team management.
14. Minimum Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene qualification.
15. HACCP Level 2 qualification.

Desirable

16. IOSH certification in Health & Safety principles.

Skills & Attributes

17. Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and compliance.
18. Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate and lead a team.
19. Confident in delivering training and explaining procedures clearly.
20. Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
21. Effective organisational and time management skills.
22. Self-motivated and proactive, with a hands-on and flexible approach.
