Hartmore School supports pupils aged 7–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of our learners join us following disrupted or challenging educational journeys. The Role: Teaching Assistant (Unqualified)
We are seeking to recruit to a number of Teaching Assistants (TA) posts. We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated and resilient TAs to join our secondary SEMH provision in Hartpury, Gloucester. As a Level 1 TA, you will work closely with class teachers and other support staff to help pupils feel safe, included and ready to learn. Your role is central to creating a calm, nurturing environment where pupils can develop socially, emotionally and academically.
You will support a small class of learners who are working below age related expectations and who require a highly adaptive, relational approach. Under the guidance of teachers, you will help pupils engage with learning, build confidence, regulate emotions and develop key social and communication skills.
This role is ideal for someone who is beginning their journey into education or SEND and is keen to learn. Full training, coaching and ongoing professional development will be provided to help you grow in the role. All we ask is that you bring a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to supporting young people with SEMH needs.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Support
•Support the class teacher in delivering learning activities across the curriculum.
•Promote and facilitate inclusion, encouraging all pupils to participate in learning and enrichment activities.
•Model positive learning behaviours and help pupils develop independence, resilience and confidence.
•Assist with preparation, organisation and adaption of learning materials to suit individual needs.
•Support small groups or individual pupils to reinforce learning or help bridge gaps in understanding.
•Contribute to assessment by observing pupils’ learning, recording progress and sharing feedback with teachers.
•Help maintain a safe, organised and stimulating classroom environment.
Emotional & Behaviour Support
•Build strong, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe, valued and understood
•Support pupils in regulating emotions and developing coping strategies during moments of dysregulation.
•Provide calm, restorative conversations following incidents to help pupils repair and move forward.
•Use consistent, supportive behaviour-management strategies in line with school values and policy.
•Share concerns, observations or safeguarding information promptly with teaching staff.
Pastoral Care
•Welcome pupils at the start of the day and help them settle into routines.
•Support pupils during transitions, social situations and unstructured times.
•Encourage positive peer interaction and help pupils develop social and communication skills
•Supervise pupils during break, lunch and dismissal and movement around the school.
General
•Assist with personal care and delivery of medications if required.
•Maintain high standards of professional conduct and safeguarding practice.
•Participate in meetings, after-school training, inset days, briefings and whole-school events.
•A reflective and proactive approach to improving practice.
•Reliability, professionalism and a willingness to engage in ongoing CPD.
•Promote wellbeing and safeguarding of pupils and staff and uphold all school policies.
•Contribute to the school’s ongoing growth, development and organisation.
•Undertaking additional duties where required to support the school.
Essential Experience & Qualities
•Ability to support learning across the curriculum.
•GCSE English & Maths (Grade 4/C or above).
•Strong organisational skills, time management and the ability to use own initiative.
•Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.
•Ability to work collaboratively within a small, cohesive team.
•Full manual driving license.
Desirable Experience & Qualities
•Experience working with children in any setting.
•Experience or interest in SEND in particular SEMH and supporting individuals with ad-ditional needs.
•Good understanding of safeguarding procedures and the ability to follow them consist-ently.
•Additional relevant training.
