About the School
Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many also have additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
The work we do is varied and challenging. As a trauma and attachment–informed organisation, all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and support. A closely triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and students can collaborate to secure outstanding outcomes.
The Role
The SENCO sits squarely in our regional SLT and is expected to embody our vision and ethos in every decision and conversation, whether with students, parents or professionals. SENCOs are well supported by a structured staffing hierarchy: regional Executive Head Teachers oversee the region, each school has its own Head Teacher, and admin/compliance teams maintain smooth operations. A specialist Head of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum drives the quality of education. SENCOs will also collaborate with a broader team of SENCOs across the country.
Key responsibilities include leading the support of effective teaching and learning across all sites, aiding children in overcoming barriers to education and atypical learning journeys. SENCOs should be hands‑on, solution‑focused and child‑centred, observing children in class and at leisure to provide feedback, support and advice. They will manage Annual Reviews of EHCPs as well as assessments and applications across a range of LA teams.
