Job Summary
We are looking to appoint a Research Portfolio Manager to the Gastrointestinal research delivery team within The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The role is a permanent contract at 37.5 h/week.
About the Team
The Research and Innovation Division supports a large early clinical trial unit with over 300 trials per year. The Gastrointestinal research team focuses on clinical trials and research projects in GI cancer.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide direct line management for research coordination and administrative staff.
* Oversee recruitment, retention, disciplinary matters and HR issues for the team.
* Conduct annual performance reviews and support staff development.
* Manage contract negotiations with trial sponsors and ensure financial agreements.
* Act as the primary point of contact with sponsors, pharma companies, and clinical research associates.
* Administer and monitor clinical trials, ensuring GCP compliance and timely data capture.
* Develop and maintain reporting mechanisms for data entry, performance metrics, and study targets.
* Lead service development projects within the team and wider R&I division.
* Collaborate with quality and improvement teams to embed quality systems and new ways of working.
* Provide support to senior R&I management and uphold Trust policy, GCP and governance.
* Plan and organise workload, prioritise tasks and exercise judgment independently.
Essential Qualifications
* Scientific or business degree, or relevant experience in scientific and medical research.
* Current GCP certification.
* Line management experience and significant clinical trial administration experience in NHS, academic or commercial setting.
* Proficient in a range of IT software and data collection applications.
* Strong organisational, prioritisation and time‑management skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
* Strong leadership and team‑management abilities.
* In‑depth understanding of clinical research processes, patient information systems and regulatory standards.
Desirable Qualifications
* Post‑graduate certificate in clinical research or related field.
* Management qualification.
* Experience with performance monitoring and management.
* Previous NHS or oncology research experience.
* Knowledge of cancer biology and treatment modalities.
* Experience in leading or initiating change.
* Evidence of CPD and achievement under pressure.

Working Pattern & Salary
* Contract: Permanent
* Hours: 37.5 h/week full‑time
* Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 per annum, pro rata.
